So Much Fun at Alive Museum @ Suntec City

Alive Museum with OMY & TFR

This is my second time visiting an optical art museum. My first time was during my Korean trip with my sister in 2012. Thanks to OMY and Alive Museum, I was able to have so much fun at this newly opened museum.

Learn some science.

1) Van Gogh’s Gaze

Follows you whichever direction you are standing. Sound eerie! I went to google about it after this and realise it is a common art technique which you can see in many portrait artworks. Eg, Mona Lisa. It is something to do with the implied depth of the painting which cause a trick to your eye. It is also an ancient security device to paint decorative eyes in shops to deter thieves. However, in this case, Van Gogh’s face is made to concave in such that the effect is more prominent.

2) The Three Meerkats A play with perspective and depth. The three meerkats are of the same height which you can test it out with the plastic meerkat cutout hanging on the side. Same height

Get interactive!

Not only still paintings for posing, there are also interactive installation art in Alive Museum.

Take a leaf out of strangers’ book.

Overall, I was satisfied with the Alive Museum experience. Love the interactive installations. A lot of creativeness. On par with the optical art museum I went in Korea.

Total time spent = 2hours

Just two things I think Alive Museum can work on.

1) After scanning the tickets, I was greeted by the below paintings (I have mosaic the photo as this blog is rated G for General Audiences). I know they are Arts but for a museum suitable for family and children, I think it is a little inappropriate. Call me old fashioned, I think these are too cheeky for my liking. Moreover, I saw a visitor doing some gross indecent act with the paintings. First stop censored painting 2) Another suggestion is Alive Museum should notify the visitors on how many installation artworks are “Upgrading in progress”. Like in a form of signboard at the ticketing counter. Luckily for my day of visit, I only encountered two of these upgradings. Just pity those who went on the days with several installations closed for upgrading. It would be very disappointed for not able to pose with the popular installations.
