After almost two years of using an Android phone, I have tried out tons of application and these seven applications are the only ones still remains in my phone. I would recommend to other users who only want applications that are easy to use, light on battery and absolutely free of charge.
Not in any particular order,
- ASTRO File Manager
- DiskUsage
- Deep Sleep Battery Saver

- Pansi SMS
- Smart Launcher

1. ASTRO File Manager
Organize and manage your files and content such as pictures, music, videos or documents on your phone, tablet, PC (via networking) or on cloud services like Facebook Photo Albums, Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive or Box. It’s like Windows Explorer or Mac’s Finder with connections to the most popular clouds.
Love the minimalistic UI. I can organise all my files and folders in my SD card easily with this file manager. Creating shortcut for most used folders make arranging files as simple as ABC.

2. DiskUsage
DiskUsage provides a way to find files and directories on storage card which consume a lot of space. Size of each app is displayed in diagram with directories/subdirectories proportional to their size.
With the all-at-a-glance diagram, you can easily find out which app is eating your space. It would be better if it incorporate the function to delete the unwanted app directly instead of the need to exit and uninstall them.

3. Deep Sleep Battery Saver
Deep Sleep battery saver constantly puts the device to deepsleep mode while screen is off. LifeHacker: “Plenty of apps save your battery life, but this one takes the idea to a whole new level”.
I have tried several battery saver, but this is the only one that I can see the effect immediately. Try it and see wonders!

4. Image 2 wallpaper
Allow users to set any picture in any size as wallpaper.
I just can’t understand why setting wallpaper with the stock application is such a hassle. Pictures are all cropped and blurred. This app has made thing so much easy. You can fit the picture to its width, height or even tile it.

5. Pansi SMS
Fastest SMS application ever on Android; message box style; scheduled message; user created folders, more functional plugins. Pansi SMS is a fast, simple, cool and free SMS application, which will bring you the best text experience on Android.
Certainly agreed that “It is a total enhancement for stock messaging application, with more cool features, beautiful UI and much faster.” One downside is it only has a few themes for you to personalise.

6. Smart Launcher
Smart Launcher is an innovative launcher, minimalist design, low resource and user-friendly interface which allows you to launch any application in a few keys. It’s currently the only launcher of Play Store, which has a function of automatic sorting and cataloging of installed applications!
Want something lightweight? Then this is it. I absolutely love the automatic sorting which really allows me to comb through my app drawer for the app I plan to use. Just a little downside to those who use widgets on homescreen. You need to upgrade to paid version to enjoy this function. For me, currently not using any widgets so not a problem.

7. QuickPic
A quicker and clearer photo gallery and picture viewer than your stock gallery.
Not the most pretty picture browser but it just have all the function I need. Show your photo file directories and allow you to create and organise in folders which is a luxury for my Sony Xperia Neo V phone.
